The Salmagundi Club, founded in 1871, is one of the oldest art organizations in America. Originally called the Salmagundi Sketch Club, their members in the early years would meet at the studio of well-known sculptor J. Scott Hartley. Over the years, the elite of American artists would become associated with the club. The Salmagundi Art Collection, which is extraordinary, reflects significant examples of each notable member throughout the club’s illustrious history, many rarely seen beyond the walls of the club’s magnificent brownstone building on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
